Hot, Hot, Hot....

The temperature seems to be holding steadily above the norms...last night at 9pm, there was a heat advisory...YIKES!

Saturday was hot all day, too. I felt bad for the girls playing softball. We won our first game and had to come back at 3:30 for a second. I think it was a good thing that we lost, or we would have had to play again on Sunday, when it was even hotter!

One more game tomorrow night and then softball season is done. Lyric is going back and forth between playing next year/not playing next year. I told her she does not have to decide right now.

21 days til school starts. School supplies are mostly bought. There are a few more things that I need to get, including folders for myself. I was able to get registered for two of the three class that I still need to take/retake, so that is definitely a good thing.

17 days to WICKED. The girls are so excited. I hope that it's not so hot while we're walking around down there. I'd hate to get into the theatre and be all wet and sweaty, ya know?!?

4 months to the release of Rick Springfield's Rockford DVD. (IF it is released when they say). Sounds like a great Christmas gift....lots of squeals will be heard on Christmas morning when women around the world (and Uncle Paulie) open their gifts! And hopefully the Christmas CD that Rick and the boys are working on will be released before Christmas 2006....but this, as most things, will be on Rick time and Rick time does not follow a normal calendar.

Til next time~

going back to school...and General Hospital

I went to the informational meeting last night and it was good. I got the name of somebody who could actually help me with getting the class that I need. I also found out that it's probable that I won't get to start nursing classes next fall, but very likely for the following spring, so that would only put my "BIG PLAN" back one semester (6 months). I can handle that. I think.

Anyway, I called the lady today (Thanks, Patti) and she helped me get into the math class that I need. She was actually able to force me in, and found out that somewhere along the line there was a computer glitch (when they switched systems or something) so if I find the same class at a different time (IE one that works better for my schedule) I can call her and she will switch it for me. I was also able to get into the A & P class that I need. I really needed it before I can take the next class (microbiology) so I signed up for the only class that actually had an opening. It is not even close to the ideal time, but when you are down to the wire, beggars can't be choosers.

Then I went to look at the books. ($300 if bought brand new) YIKES! I did a little research and was able to find a couple of them on amazon so instead of $150, they will only cost $35 plus shipping and handling. Woo Hoo! I'm still looking for the others but I think they may be "special" and I may have to get them at the college. But still, I saved over $100 right off the bat.

Now I have to check in with financial aid and see about getting a student loan, and/or check with hubby about how he would like to pay for these classes, since work doesn't pay for them until I pass them. And we have a little over 2 weeks to come up with the money.

On a little side note: General Hospital was totally awesome yesterday, and it sounds like it continued today. There is one yucky storyline winding down, and one GREAT one coming up. It made it worth watching again, and I must say, Jason Thompson is doing a fine job as Dr Patrick Drake! And as always, Kimberly McCullough as Dr Robin Scorpio is great. I'm glad that they did not try to recast this character. I don't think it would have had half as much impact if they had. Now, if Dr P Drake's daddy would just make an appearance today (and I don't know yet that he doesn't) that would be the icing on the cake!

Wish us luck for tomorrow's softball tournament! We play first thing in the morning...can you say coffee and softball for Mommy!?!?!? :)

Till next time~

Good sportsmanship....

I will be the first to admit that I don't know all the rules of softball, but I know a few things. I know that you can't steal a base on a dead ball, I know that if the ball hits the ground before it hits you, you don't get to take your base, and I know that both teams should be playing by the same rules. That's not how the game went last night, and it made it hard for the girls to have a good time. And the coaches, too. it's pretty bad when coaches (from the opposing team) are out for blood. Our girls were there to play a game and have fun. If we win that's great. The other coaches were there not only to win, but to win by any means necessary. And to them, that was okay. There were a couple of instances where there was a difference of opinion on the rules. I don't think a coach should be able to say "we don't play that way" (referring to the 10 runs in an inning rule). What do you mean, you don't play that way?! It's a league rule! Our assitant overheard her say to someone else "If they would have asked at the beginning of the game we would have played that way". WHAT? We don't have to ask. It's not make the rules as you go along. That's why there is a rule book! Oh, and how about stealing home? We have not played one game all season where that was okay, but last night, that's just what they did! And it was okay for them to steal bases on an overthrown ball at second, but not okay for us to steal bases when they overthrew a ball at first?!? WHAT?

I'm glad that the season is almost over because last night's game was pretty hard to watch. Lyric did make the first out of the game by catching a pop fly! That was totally great to see. She also was able to score a couple of runs. Two of our girls got hit with the ball while batting, and I think a third came close. It looked like the ball went right between her legs.
I'm not a sore loser, this is not about how we got cheated. I'm just saying give everybody the same rules to play by. That's all. That's not too much to ask, is it? At least I know that our team will have good sportsmanship skills. They will also have skills in general because they know how to play the game, not how to cheat and twist things to go their way.

And I need to give a shout out to Scott and Justin for being GREAT coaches! I think that they are doing a great job and I'm glad to have them coaching Lyric this year. I hope that they come back next year to coach again, because she is really loving the game. I have seen her skills improve somewhat over the past couple of months. And besides that, she just really likes the game!

Heat headache or wacky hormones....

The past two nights I have gotten a headache almost immediately upon leaving work. You'd think I'd get it going in, right? But no. Last night was the worst. I went to Lyric's game (which they lost, BTW) and my head was pounding. By the time I got home, I thought I was going to throw up. I asked Fisher to feed the girls, took some drugs (the legal kind) and headed to bed. I woke up at 11:30 and then not again until 6am. I think it was good rest, but it was hard to tell. I feel okay this morning, just hungry from not eating dinner.
Lyric has another game tonight. Last night they played with only 8 girls, hopefully today they will have more.
Tomorrow is the "informational meeting" at RVC about the nursing program. I'll get to find out how much more work I have to do to get in. And hopefully somebody can "put" me into the math class that they are telling me I have to take. Should be interesting. I always feel so old when I think about college, but I know that there are others out there like me and older, who are also going back to college. I'm wondering if the Dr Drake's would like to come help me study. Are you up for it guys?! (Auggie, if they agree, you can be in our study group!)
Today, my dorkiness is being featured at www.crazedparent.org. (Thanks, Charlene) Check it out. She also has some great links to some other blogs, so if you have some time, surf around.
Til next time, See Ya!

Fun with the kiddies...

I went home last night with the worst headache I've had in months. Okay, not the worst, but nobody likes to have a headache. Anyway, took some medicine, had dinner and rested on the couch. The headache started to go away...thank goodness. Just as I'm thinking I could put the kids to bed early, The CMT Muscial Festival comes on TV, So we turn it up, pop in a tape and start dancing! Great exercise, probably not the best idea just coming off of a headache, but whatever. The kids loved it, and I must admit, mom did to. It was overall good music. It was great to hear Wynona do a Led Zepplin song, loved Keith Urban with Brooks & Dunn ( did anybody else notice he wasn't wearing a wedding ring? Was this recorded before the Aussie nuptuals?). I'm not a huge Kenny Chesney fan, but I thought what he did for his fans was great (two of them got to fly on his jet, with him from New York to Nashville) and they will never forget that experience...hint, hint, Mr Springfield. Anyway, I'm glad that I watched it.
I'm not so glad that I flip flopped channels (during commercials) and wasted time on GH (General Hospital). I mean, in general I like that show, and that fact that there are occassional sightings of one Mr Rick Springfield,or his McDreamy TV son, it's usually worth it, but GH is starting to turn into Days (of our lives), but maybe it was just a bad day for GH. Maybe I was really just mad because there was no Dr Drake Sr, and Dr Drake Jr really needs to take off that nerdy sweater vest that he was wearing, really...REALLY!
If you haven't heard about MR S lately, check out his website:
www.rickspringfield.com
or the fan run site at

There's lots of good stuff there. When you are done with that, surf over to Jason Thompson's fan run site

Two times in a week

two times in a week's not so bad right? Who am I kidding, I'm about as inconsistent as ...hhhmmm, I don't know. What's inconsistent? Food for thought for the day, I guess. While I was checking my email this morning, I was turned on to two "bands" who do Jessie's Girl covers. Even thought it is not one of my favorite Rick Springfield songs (not even close) I am willing to support anybody who helps to continue getting his name out there since he has been my favorite performer since I was 12, and we won't even talk about how long ago that was :). The first one is Spank the Monkey and the other is Freshman Fifteen. I'll be checking them out on itunes as soon as I get home...make dinner, take Lyric to flute lessons, do dishes and put the kids to bed. Even if their versions are crap, I'm always on the lookout for new interesting good music, so if you know of anything you think I should check out, let me know. (Free CD's are always good!)

Til next time.....

Starting out write...right?

What does a mom of two who works full time and in planning to go back to school think she is doing putting one more thing on her to do list? I don't know. Silly me. I know sometimes I have moments of clarity, and this is probably not one of them. I figured that I could use this to give updates on my novel, track my whole school career, which should prove pretty interesting and may turn into a book all its own, and to help promote the blogs of my friends, as well as other things I like (books, music, TV, authors, etc) So who knows what will show up here on any given day. And yes, yes, I promise to do my best to post every day! I figure that will give me the first burst of routine and it should help with other things (getting the book done, studying, etc). If I find out that it turns out to be a big pain or a big waste of time, then I'll stop, but right now it seems like a good idea. Thanks Charlene for inadvertently giving me the idea.
